First of all, my apologies for the sparse blog updates as of late. Work has been crazy and when you are working 14 or 15 hours a day, you find very little time to do much else other than work, eat (take-out), and sleep. But I promise for my followers that I will update more periodically so please don’t stop reading!
Two Saturdays ago on a sunny beautiful afternoon, I finally visited Bi-Rite Creamery. Many of my friends had been hyping up this place for the longest time so I had to go for the whole experience – Bi-Rite ice cream followed by lounging at Dolores Park on a sunny day just people (and dog) watching. And I have to say – the hype was well worth it.
Walking into Bi-Rite made me feel like a kid again. There were tons of unique flavors to choose from and I wanted to try them all! As I moved up in line and my mind was racing to decide what flavors to try, I decided to go with two scoops – the classic salted caramel and the brown sugar with ginger caramel swirl.
I really liked both flavors. The salted caramel had a very good balance of sweet and salty. Neither one overpowered the other and it was much better than just regular caramel ice cream. The brown sugar with ginger caramel swirl was a bit sweet, but that’s to be expected from a name like that. I loved the hint of ginger flavor in there as it gave it a unique twist. Or else it would have just been sugar caramel ice cream and it wouldn’t have been as cool.
I will definitely go back to Bi-Rite again since there are still so many flavors I want to try. On the top of my list? Ricanelas (cinnamon with snickerdoodles) and Malted Vanilla with Peanut Brittle and Milk Chocolate Pieces. I can’t wait! Ice cream and watching people/dogs play at Dolores Park. Just a simple, perfect afternoon.
And it really makes me want to get a dog (a dachschund wiener dog to be more specific), but that’s neither here nor there.
