San Pedro Bistro & Wine Bar serves up good affordable meal

Chicken Sandwich

Some coworkers and I headed to lunch at San Pedro Bistro & Wine Bar in San Jose today.  I had never heard of this place before so I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be a good affordable place to eat lunch in Downtown San Jose.

I ordered the Chicken Sandwich, which had grilled chicken breast on a French baguette, sauteed mushroom, provolone cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato, red onion, basil, drizzled with olive oil and garlic fries.  The chicken wasn’t dry at all, the mushrooms were sauteed well, the cheese was melted on the chicken, and all together the sandwich just worked well.  The best part however was definitely the basil in the sandwich.  It gave it a great herb flavor.  The only complaint I had was that the baguette wasn’t toasted enough so it was a little tough to bite and chew.  The garlic fries were also very well seasoned.  The sandwich only cost $9, which is pretty good for a full meal in Downtown San Jose.

In fact, San Pedro’s whole menu is reasonable and affordable with most entrees $10 or less.  One coworker ordered a Warm Beef Salad that consisted of sauteed flank steak, organic mix greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, lemon vinaigrette and crostinis for $9.  Her salad looked super delicious and the portion was quite big.  I think I might order that next time.

Other affordable entrees include a Steak Sandwich for $9, Crab Cake Burger for $10, Linguine with Succulent Jumbo Prawns for $10, and Pan-Seared Filet Mignon Cubed for $10.  I definitely recommend this place for the working individuals in Downtown San Jose.  The majority of the menu is under $10, the food is prepared quickly, and the food tastes good with large portions – three things that make it an ideal restaurant for office building employees like myself.  And with so many places closing down in the downtown area, this is really quite a deal.
